Lawson - The Live Experience Review

Hellooo! Around a month ago one of my favourite bands, Lawson, made a very exciting announcement! They announced that they would be performing a live-streamed concert on the 6th of September using the Veeps platform with all the production of a full-scale tour! The Lawson - The Live Experience livestream was advertised to start at 8pm and would be available for 24 hours to allow everyone around the world to be able to watch the livestream! Following this, a Q&A livestream was announced to take place at 8pm on the 7th of September, which was available to everyone who purchased a ticket to the show.

Seven ticket packages were released, ranging from £11.99 for a virtual ticket to the live concert stream and Q&A session, up to £99.99 for a ticket, signed live CD of the concert with a digital download, limited edition event t-shirt, virtual meet and greet video chat with Lawson and your name in the credits at the end of the concert. I went for Package 5, which included a ticket to the live concert stream and Q&A session, a signed CD of the concert with a digital download, along with a limited edition t-shirt. This package was £44.99 with free shipping however at checkout, fees were added taking the price of the bundle up to £51.74. I will add that I don’t think I was the only one that assumed this package included a digital download of the concert as the ticket was advertised as “Live Stream + Live Group Q&A + Signed Live Recorded CD + Digital Download + Limited Edition Event T-Shirt” however, following the livestreams, Lawson announced that a digital download of the concert would be available for £14.99. The band also confirmed that this was not included in the original packages and it was a digital download of the CD, not the livestream.

The streamed concert opened with a video montage featuring clips from previous behind the scenes videos and from their Lawson Lie In series which was all very nostalgic! I loved this introduction as it added to the build-up towards the show and made it feel more like a live tour! Lawson opened with their debut single When She Was Mine, which sounded just as amazing as it did when the song was first released back in 2012! Next on the setlist was another of my favourites from Lawson, Learn To Love Again! Following this was a couple of Lawson’s new tracks, She Don’t Even Know and Animals. Taking Over Me took Lawson to their halfway point before they performed their latest single, Four Letters! Although there is a difference in sound and style between Lawson’s older and newer music, they all sounded great together as a setlist and nothing sounded out of place. Following Four Letters was Where My Love Goes and Juliet, which made me realise that I had forgotten how much I love the single Juliet! Lovers was next on the setlist, which sounded incredible live and I can’t wait to see them perform it on tour, whenever that may be! Finally, Standing In The Dark completed the show and was the perfect finale!

I loved the setlist and it had a great mix of classic Lawson tracks, alongside their new music. I also LOVED the production behind the show! The lighting was incredible and I loved the use of the screen behind the band throughout the performance. Lawson - The Live Experience felt like a filmed performance being released following a tour, rather than a stream of a live show, if that makes sense! There were so many cameras covering all of the band and the shots were constantly changing, which reflected the energy that Andy, Ryan, Joel and Adam put into their performances.

Overall, the concert exceeded all my expectations and I loved watching the performance! The production behind the show was incredible and I loved the setlist. I loved being able to see Lawson performing live together again, even if it was virtually! If this show is anything to go by, once they are allowed to tour again, their live shows are going to be incredible! The Q&A session the following day was also a great addition and as it was hosted by George Webster gave the stream a more relaxed atmosphere as they have known each other throughout the Lawson journey! I’m now very much looking forward to the CD and t-shirt arriving!

Thank you for reading and stay safe!
